Do It For Dom 2019

On Wednesday 4th and Thursday 5th of September some of the Property Drop agents will be canoeing 31 miles of the Wye in aid of the ‘Do it For Dom’ fundraiser in support of Huntington’s disease.

They will be joined by other agents from all corners of the UK, and national property companies in a fundraising event in aid of Huntington’s disease, and in particular friend of the industry Dominic Subbiani.

Event organiser Suzanna Mavity had this to say “Our beloved friend Dominic Subbiani was diagnosed with Huntingdon’s disease 2 years ago. The disease is fatal with no cure and this naturally caused devastation. The disease naturally causes depression, so when we found out about the diagnosis, we decided we had to do something to help cure this disease, but also show Dom just how loved he is. So last year we took 49 people up Snowdon and raised in excess of £70k, this year we are doing it all again and canoeing 31 miles down the River Wye over 2 days. This year has attracted over 100 people and is turning into a canoe challenge plus festival in the evening! We are looking for more people to join us and donations to help us raise more funds.

Huntington’s disease is a progressive brain disorder that causes uncontrolled movements, emotional problems, and loss of thinking ability. It is essentially a fatal disease which currently has no cure.

Dom is loved by many in the industry, due to his easy-going nature, his kind and thoughtful approach and fantastic sense of humour, so he is not short of friends. Dom has been in the property industry since God was a boy and runs a successful estate agents and holiday lets business, called FBM in Haverfordwest and is part of the Fine & Country network, The Guild of Property Professionals, Relocation Agent, and Propertymark NAEA & ARLA.

When I first told Dom we wanted to start a charity ‘Do It For Dom’ to raise money for Huntingdon’s disease, he said nobody would join, but I thought about 20 people would…. Anyway, we decided to climb Snowdon last year, quite the challenge for most of us, as we are more likely to be found in a bar than up a mountain, and we originally set out with a target of 20 attendees hoping to raise £20k. In the end we had 49 people join and we raised in excess of £70k! It was a huge success, to say the least.

This year is bigger and better! We are canoeing 31 miles down the River Wye from Hoarwithy to Monmouth, stopping in Ross-on-Wye in the evening for a mini festival! There are over 100 property professionals joining us in the challenge, so far, and it is turning out to be one of the biggest charity events the industry has ever seen.

By day we will be taking to our canoes and covering 31 miles of river and rapids, by night we have a mini-style festival which includes tipis, BBQ, professional DJ, our own ‘Do It For Dom’ band, stand-up comedy, a charity auction and games to have fun and help raise more funds”

The event both starts, and ends, in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.
